Homestay Rules and Regulations

For Students:

You live in a new home, so please try to connect with your host family members. If you don’t know how to use something, ask for instructions. You are expected to have your own computer/laptop, but if you want to use the host family’s computer, ask their permission first, the best time you can use it and for how long.

If you need to call your family or friends back home, respect the time difference, make sure you don’t call them late at night. Please respect quiet times (10 pm to 6:30 am) as your host goes to work in the morning and they need a good sleep. Also avoid taking shower during quiet times. No candles burning at any time, this is very dangerous and causes a lot of Canadian fires.

You will eat your breakfast at home. You will be provided a light lunch (usually a sandwich with a drink and snacks). Dinner is the main meal in Canada and it is served with all family members. If you are going to be late for dinner, let your host family know ahead of time so that they can eat on time and also save yours. You are not allowed to eat in your room as the food pieces will attract flies and insects. Please let your host know what you like to eat and what you don’t, they will try their best to provide your favorite food. If you would like to cook your own food, ask your host if you can use the kitchen and when you are done, make sure you don’t leave any mess behind.

If you like to bring a friend home, check with your host first. You are not allowed to bring a friend of opposite sex to your bedroom.

Ask your host family when to take a shower and how to use the laundry. If you are going to do the laundry yourself, make sure you do it in the evening or on weekend to save energy. You need to clean your own room and bathroom.

In case of emergency dial 911. If you have any problem that you can not discuss with your host family, please contact us.

Please contact us if you need homestay placement

For Host Families:

Homestay is an opportunity for people of different cultures and languages to live together and learn from each other. This is a great opportunity to share your culture with international students while you learn from them. In order to have the best host family experience we would like you to read and follow these instructions.

It is very important to remember that you are not renting a room to a student, you are accepting another family member, so please be patient and try to understand your student’s culture and habits. Please show your student how to go to his/her school, and how to use public transportation. Also please show them the location of shopping centres, post office, library and area’s attractions.

You are responsible to provide three meals a day. A traditional breakfast, a packed light lunch (sandwich with drinks and snacks), and dinner which must be served with the family. This is a great time to talk with your student, so make sure they don’t bring their cellphones to the dinner table. If your work schedule doesn’t allow you to be home for dinner, inform your student and prepare his/her meal ahead of time.

Communication with your student is very important, please give your phone number to your student and get their number too. This is very helpful when they are late and you need to locate them; or if they can not find their way home, so they can call you. The students should go home after school, if they don’t, they should inform the host where they are and when they are going home.

It is your responsibility to provide your student with a private room with a bed, clean linens, pillow, blanket, towels, desk, chair, lamp and closet. The room should not be shared with another student.

The host family should speak English at all times with their student. If you are planning to go for a vacation, you have to take your student with you or arrange accommodation and care for him/her during your absence. Invite your student to join some of your family activities and outing, but if there is a cost involved explain it to your student ahead of time.

In order to avoid misunderstanding and miscommunications, explain your family’s rules and expectations to your students upon their arrival and contact us in case if there is something you can not discuss with your student.

If you agree with the conditions mentioned above please fill out a host family application form. We will contact you for an interview at your house.
